Will Not Pursue Level "" or below?
 

Hello Everyone,

My wife and I started playing Munchkin last night and we had a debate about the cards that state, "Will not pursue anyone of Level " " or below. Say the level is 4 or below and I have a level 1 with modifiers helping me to bet any level 6 monster or below. Do I have to include the modifiers (ex. gear) to determine if the monster will pursue me or is it based around my level without modifiers?

I appreciate any help in clearing this up.

What you compare in combat is your combat strength, which is calculated as your Level plus any bonuses and minus any penalties. The same goes for the monsters. Thus, your bonuses do not change your Level and it is only your Level that the monsters that won't pursue you care about.

Level + modifiers = Combat Strength. "Level" is capitalized and refers to your Level in the game.

Just started playing Munchkin with my 9yo son this weekend and this was one of the questions we had. I was pretty sure this was the answer however, I have a follow-up question. If the monster won't pursue a level # or below, and I'm on the lower level, I don't have to fight BUT do I get the treasures AND move up a level or just get the treasures or none of the above? Thanks so much. We're loving Munchkin big time!

None of the above. You are automatically fighting once the Monster is drawn face up while "Kicking Open a Door," or played from your hand while "Looking for Trouble."

"Will not pursue" means if you are losing said fight and have to run away, the monster will not pursue you. Meaning it will not chase you. You don't have to roll to run away.

Oh, I get it now. Thanks, Andy! That's really helpful. All of this is new since I've never played any kind of role-playing or card-based game like this before, even at my advanced age!
