Class/race-less Hirelings

Can class/race-less hireling carry any item in the game?

Am thinking that its really overpowered since there are class and race hirelings and they can only carry items of that race/class

Re: Class/race-less Hirelings

The card named Hireling from Munchkin, Munchkin 3 and Munchkin Legends can carry any Item in the game (except Item Enhancers, Steeds, Ships and a few other specific exceptions). There are other Hirelings with neither Race nor Class that can't carry Items at all, for example, the Budget Hireling.

In general, a Hireling can only carry an Item if it says it can carry an Item, and said description will let you know exactly which type of Items will work for that carried Item.

As for balance, yes, the Hireling card has a much larger range of stuff it can carry. However, it also provides a smaller innate bonus, as most Race/Class Hirelings that can carry Items give a +2 instead of Hireling's +1.

Re: Class/race-less Hirelings

Do they stay as generic x-less hirelings even when equipped with "Class/Sex/Race Only" items? Is a Hireling carrying the Broad Sword considered female? Or are they Elvish if using the Bow with Ribbons?

If they don't change to fit the weapon, what is their default sex? A Class-less Human makes sense as default, but their sex could make a difference if fighting the Amazon or something.

Hirelings default to the sex shown on the card.

It does not matter what they are carrying. They work sort of like a Cheat! card with respect to what they allow you to carry and use, but are different in other respects, such as the bonus and other abilities.

If you are only playing with the sets with just Hireling, then you do not have the Hireling rules and they have no gender, Race, nor Class. If you are including sets with the Hireling rules, then they have the gender that is obvious from their art, as per the rules. They still have no Race (not even Human) and no Class.
