So... 2:1 power:weight ratio plus HD High Torque Motor == 40mph acceleration? ; )

"An electric racing car built by Swiss student engineers has broken the world record for acceleration. The grimsel car took only 1.513 seconds to reach 100kph (62mph)"

1966: harpoon the other car, drag it to slow it down, spray in some tear gas, nice!

Electric truck:

It's still not a long-haul one: 124 miles of range, and 57,000 pound max weight.

The yellow car looks almost exactly like one of the subcompact models of the original Autoduel Miniatures from Grenadier Miniatures.

When we lived in California in the 1970's, a neighbor had one of those in blue, being silent, it would scare the snot out of the horses when we were out riding.

In the spirit of "50 Years Ago Today" this is a news item that harkens back to those little snippets in ADQ about random road violence, harbingers of the endless chaos and anarchy we were certain was waiting just around the corner. If you would have told a Car Wars player in the 80's about a multi-sided fight between rival biker gangs as well as police, they would probably assume that was a daily occurrence by 2015. Granted, it's been a year since this well-known incident took place, I think the largest biker gang fight in history certainly deserves a mention in the Car Wars timeline.

Waco biker shoot-out: 170 face charges in Texas

Texas police say 170 people are to face organised crime charges after a bike-gang shooting that left nine people dead and 18 others injured.
The feud broke out between several gangs at a shopping district in Waco.

What started as a fist fight soon descended into a battle with knives, clubs, chains and eventually guns.

One witness described the scene as "a war zone", while a Waco policeman called it the most gruesome scene he had encountered in his career.
The number of those charged was revised down from 192, a figure police announced early on Monday.

The incident happened shortly after midday on Sunday at the Twin Peaks Sports Bar and Grill in a shopping area called the Central Texas Market Place.

Authorities investigate a shooting in the parking lot of the Twin Peaks restaurant on 17 May in Waco, Texas.

Up to five rival gangs got into a fight, apparently over parking space near the restaurant. Diners and staff at the nearby cafe managed to lock themselves in a freezer room for safety and were later escorted off the premises by armed police.

"Twenty-five feet away there were families," Waco police sergeant Patrick Swanton said.

"This is one of the worst gunfights we've ever had in the city limits. They started shooting at our officers."

Twin Peaks' management said on Monday it would close the Waco restaurant.
The restaurant's corporate parent cut ties with the Waco location on Monday.
Rick van Warner, a spokesman for the company, said managers of the branch "chose to ignore the warnings and advice from both the police and our company, and did not uphold the high security standards we have in place to ensure everyone is safe at our restaurants."

The authorities have increased security in the area to prevent further outbreaks of violence, as there are fears some of the gang members might return.

Police are to conduct tests on more than 100 cars or bikes found at the scene.

I see one thing people are forgetting while coming up with this stuff: I don't know what kind of apocalypse is going to have happened, but certain resources may no longer be available anymore.
It may be impossible to create carbon fiber, or certain micro circuitry, or other things that would be problematic in the Car Wars universe.

Have you had a look in Uncle Al's recently ;). For example carbon fibre is explicitly a thing (The CA frame), as to the other stuff, a society that is capable of producing lasers, plastic armour, guided 2.5lb rockets (MLL's can be laser guided) as consumer items has fixed any "issue" you might care to mention with regard to technology and production.

CW "apocalypse" is not an apocalypse as most people would envisage. Even then it is a very "post" post-apocalypse. It is not mad max (that is Chassis & Crossbow), it is more like death race (which arguably isn't an apocalypse).

There may also be levels of Apocalypse, suburban new York may be just a future city, whereas somewhere in Nevada might be more like the wild west. In this case goods will still flow to where they are needed.

Ahhh! Ok. I remember, way back when, there was a worldwide grain blight, and food riots. And since there were rad areas out in the wildlands, it implied at least a limited nuclear exchange. I wasn't sure how extensive it was.

I know people didn't want to go full on cyberpunk but it seems like all of that would be available. Perhaps with Gold Cross and limb/organ regrowth, cybernetics are just cost prohibitive. The rare cyborg you run into would be a security guy with a major corporation.

Re: "100 Years Ago Today" - Car Wars News

Cybernetics were written up in ADQ 7-4. In the 4 issue comic there was even a cyborg character (Mecha-Chan or some such if memory serves).

Whether these rule count as anything near official is another matter. Since the base rules don't create a situation where you might loose a limb, for example, replacing them is irrelevant.
