We have a difference between cinematic and non-cinematic advantages: Rapier wit is cinematic and thus unavailable. I don't think I'd use it in any but the silliest of games, to tell the truth. The computer hacking skill is also considered cinematic. The issue with cinematic rules is mostly one of realism: GURPS has a fairly low suspense of disbelief in many cases, but has options that allow magic and crazy movie action scenes.

basic speed should keep its fractions: your speed is 4.5, not 4.

We're having some disconnect on the skills: skills have a base attribute, a difficulty, a number of ranks in them, and a score.

for example, Public Speaking is an Average skill based on IQ, so when you spend 1 point on it you have it at IQ-1, or 13. Computer programming is also based on IQ, but is a hard skill, so with 4 points in it you have it at IQ, or 14. however, the mathmatical talent adds +3 to it, putting it at 17, which is extremely high. Common formats often look like this:

Computer Programming H IQ+4 17 [4]

Common Sense is automatic, given my GM style: you won't need it. Is there a reason you went for intuition? You already have luck and serendipity, which provide similar roles.

Also, the skills could be rounded out a little or added to: 0 point versions of skills just use defaults. He might want a transportation skill as well. A few hobby skills wouldn't go astray either.

You might want to look at the existing characters in the thread for a good idea of what a balanced character looks like. The base idea is good, it just needs some polishing, and for this campaign really ought to be a fairly rounded individual.

oh...o.k...I think I get it now.....I'll try to make something up later on when I have time....

I am guessing that Survival is for jungle?

I would lower panhandling and add the Soldier skill since he is a soldier.

I would also lower brawling one notch and add Physician, you use that to determine what type of injury someone has so you know what to do to heal it. or was it one of the other skills that started with a "P'?

He has the panhandling skill because he WAS a soldier, he's a drifter now and panhandling is how he gets by. Survival is more urban than jungle, though I had no idea I was supposed to specialize.... I'll try to find a place to squeeze in physician so thanks for that....

Re: [OCC] Lost in Dreams

as written, hes a little incomplete:

What was the guy before Nam?

if he's a just a medic, he shouldn't have physician and surgery is a little unusual. If hes a fully trained doctor, he should have diagnosis and certainly won't be a drifter.

can he drive?

You're aware the given story makes the the guy pretty old: it takes a while to train a medic.

Re: [OCC] Lost in Dreams

well I did plan for him to be rather old....though I guess I went a little overboard with the doctor skills....I'll just take off the surgery skill and physician skill aswell as lightsleeper...maybe I'll put soldier in there to round him out....

It seems to ME that the towerlandians are using 16base numerical system. I'm not so sure a history professor will get it.
What do you think of that - any experience with history professors?
As a matter of interest how do they "speak" this language system - did he say four-eee for 4E. So our current homeline year would be year seven-dee-dee?
Or will they say like seven hundred deety dee :P, or something else for hundreds thousand etc.
