Golem number two can not step back due to taking all out attack maneuver.

Too right. Strange that AoA is more restrictive than Attack in that regard.

another note, I am suppose to be right next to golem 2, not 1 hex away. it failed its retreating parry before and so did not move back 1 hex.

which would mean it needed to take a ready maneuver to switch its reach from 2 yards to 1 yard to hit me with that all out attack. other wise you would need to change that into a normal attack and drop the deceptive part so everything is the same :)

That's not how I understand the retreating option, p. B377: "Your step back takes place immediately. It is assumed to occur as your foe is striking."

Otherwise, if you failed, say, a Dodge and Drop, you wouldn't drop if you failed the active defense roll? I don't think that's how it is.

Open for discussion, though!

Yeah, you still move back even if you fail the defense.

However, if the attacker wishes, he can pursue with a step, deducting it from his next turn's movement.

^True that, as long as his maneuver allows and he didn't already do so.

Just got a reply from PK:

As long as the Bat doesn't go more than 13 hexes in a turn, it doesn't use any of the high-speed rules, right?

Right.

So, on its first turn, it can take a Move maneuver and go 13 hexes, right?
Right.

Quote:

Let's say the bat perched on the ground 12 hexes from Joe. It takes a Move and Attack and flies 12 hexes to Joe and bites him. Is that fine? Anything I missed there?

To bite him, it rolls at -4 for the Move and attack. No other modifiers for flying or speed/range or anything. Right? Wrong?
Its skill also cannot exceed 9. Otherwise, right.

Quote:

Now it's in close combat with Joe, who attacks with his dagger at no modifier for speed/range, right? Or, is he at -5 for the bat's speed?
No modifier. Speed only applies to ranged attacks.

Quote:

Next turn, the bat can attack again? If so, doesn't that mean it's hovering in place?

If not, what does the bat have to do?
I don't think I understand the question. The bat can do whatever it likes. It can stop (going from 13 to 0 in one turn is fine if your basic air Move is 13) and hover to attack him, sure. (As long as you don't have a problem with bats hovering. I don't know bats well enough to speak on whether that's realistic.) Or it could take another Move and Attack maneuver (perhaps biting on its way to fly away). Or it could Evaluate, or do anything else the GM thinks is appropriate.

Can you talk a little bit more about these rules? Maybe provide a quick few rounds of example combat?
I don't have time to do so right now, no. But I'll be happy to answer further questions and clarify my answers if anything was unclear.

I'm going to follow it up with some questions about high-speed movement now.

you are right about retreat, I was thinking about grappling when I wrote that. >.<

Wow. Sir H just avoided 22 points of damage to the face with a zero margin of success. XD

It's the bat's turn, I think, but I simply can't do it. Gotta sleep...
