[Official] GCA Data Files available for download

From time to time we post official updates for GURPS Character Assistant 4 through the SJGames website. You can download the latest Program Patch and Data Updates there:
http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/charact...rt/update.html

However, between posting those updates it sometimes becomes necessary to release data files for newer books without including them in the full Data Update. Sometimes this is because the file is too incomplete, sometimes it hasn't been rigorously tested (it's still in "beta"), sometimes it's because the file (or book) wasn't done in time for the full Data Update. You can watch for information on these releases on the GURPS Character Assistant forum at SJGames website:
http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.p...76&postcount=1

The most recent Program Patch is fully up to date. If there are more data files available they'll be posted to this thread.

Re: GCA Data Files available for download

Armin has uploaded an installer that contains the 3rd Edition Books data files that were converted over for GCA4 some time ago. If you have GCA 3, you already have these files. If you have GCA 4, you can now get them.

You can download it here: 3rd_edition_books.exe

Note that there is no guarantee that all of these files will work for you as you might expect. They haven't been extensively tested. Also, if you want to use them with GURPS 4th Edition, you must be aware that the skill types in these files are for 3rd Edition, so they'll need to be changed to work with 4th Edition.

It's worth noting that much of the functionality that is available for 4th Edition data files in unavailable for the 3rd Edition files. Interest in 3rd Edition support for GCA has been almost non-existent, so these files have not been maintained and updated.

Also worth mentioning is that "Powers" in 3rd Edition are placed under the "Perks" tab within GCA4. This is because in 3rd Edition "Powers" were treated as a separate class of traits, and there were no "Perks," so the only place to separate them out was into the "Perks" tab.

Re: GCA Data Files available for download

I have made available a spreadsheet which streamlines the creation of data files containing new Power Investiture spell lists for new power sources (lists similar to the Druidic, Holy, and Unholy lists from Dungeon Fantasy). This spreadsheet was written in Excel 2000, works in Open Office.

Re: [Official] GCA Data Files available for download

There is a bug in the current Dungeon Fantasy 2 data file which causes the bonuses from Combat Reflexes to be doubled. I have uploaded a fixed data file for the interim which you can downloaded below.

There is a bug in the _New Talent which is causing the selection list to not work properly. You will either need to use Modifiers to apply the skills to the _New Talent for it to work correctly or you will need to load the fixed file below.

Re: [Official] GCA Data Files available for download

One of the new improvements I've added in the last go-around of data files is a programming "language" filter for Notepad++ for data files. It's not perfect, but it does a pretty good job of filtering the formatting for data files to help you look for inconsistencies. To help with the filtering I added a few non-data file code bits into data files; probably the most notable being the \[START] and \[STOP] that's been added to the end of the asterisk spacer lines to demark the beginning and end of data file sections. These help with collapsing code sections.

You can download the xml file from my website:
http://gurpsland.no-ip.org/GCA4/GCA-NPP.zip

You can import the language filter in Notepad++ by unzipping the xml file then in Notepad++ going to
Language -> Define Your Language -> Import (Button)
and select the XML file to import.

In addition Emily (aka Bruno) has assembled a language definition for GDF files in EditPad Pro from JGSoft.

Installation (IN THIS ORDER):

Unzip the Syntax Schema into %APPDATA%\JGsoft\EditPad Pro 7

Save the Language definition somewhere. In EditPad, go to Options -> Configure File Types -> Import (bottom left) and pick the INI from wherever you saved it.

Re: [Official] GCA Data Files available for download

A significant bug was introduced into the Dungeon Fantasy 9: Summoners data file which will cause GCA to crash if you attempt to load any of the character templates.

Here's a link to a zip file with a replacement data file. You can unzip this into the install folder and replace the existing file, since in a future update this file will replace the currently bugged one.

Re: [Official] GCA Data Files available for download

I've rolled out an update for Actions 1 as well as Monster Hunters 1 & 4.

Action 1 includes improvements to the handling of background lenses within the Character Templates, allowing new lenses to be integrated into the templates. Because of this Action 1 now includes several more background lenses based on the synopses lenses found on page 5 under No Lenses?. I also added a data file for the article Extended Action from Pyramid 3/53, which adds a new character template and several new background lenses (which, thanks to the changes, are fully integrated into the existing character templates from Action 1).

Monster Hunters 1 & 4 include updates to the handling of motivational lenses to better integrate new lenses into the existing templates, allowing new motivational lenses to be added at a later date. Currently this feature isn't really used, so these files won't really work any differently for an end-user. However, these files do allow for the future addition of new motivational lenses from books or Pyramid articles (such as those presented in Pyramid 3/115: Technomancer).

I've just updated the Actions gdf files and added files for Actions 3: Furious Fists and Actions 4: Specialists. This includes all of the Martial Arts abilities in Furious Fists as well as all six of the Character Templates and 180+ Skill Set Lenses from both books.

Re: [Official] GCA Data Files available for download

I've created a datafile for Template Toolkit 3: Starship Crew. This file contains all 10 character templates and 21 lenses; it requires GURPS Power-Ups 3 Talents.gdf be loaded for most of the talents to be available.

I have not yet created a file for the GCA5 beta, though I'm sure I will in a few days.
