Alternate XP award method.
I got a crazy idea the other night about awarding character points, here goes:
So, what does everyone think? Last edited by umbros; 09-22-2009 at 01:39 AM. Reason: additional detail |

Sounds Sort of like Marvel Superheroes FASERIP's Karma Pool.

Hope your players are all very cooperative, and that they stay friends after you introduce this zero-sum system.

Re: Alternate XP award method.
ME: "Hey, everyone! Can I buy my Magery up from 3 to 5 now? We've got 20 points in pool."
GAIUS SECUNDUS: "Sure, it'll let you heal us better." GAIUS TIRTIUS: "No, buy 6 FP and leave a couple of points for the rest of us." GAIUS QUATRUS: "Okay, if I get to take Weapon Master at the start of the next session." ...Yeah, I can totally see this working.

I don't currently have plans to introduce this yet, it is, as I said in my original post, in the "crazy idea" (i.e.sleep deprived) stage. So you think it would lead to hard feelings? Maybe a better model would be a personal award as well as a pool. The personal award would be for character advancement or whatever and the common pool would be only for the other stuff. Like roguebfl said a "Karma Pool". My whole reason behind this I suppose is that I like the bullet-time and buying successes stuff but no one ever uses it. I guess CPs are seen as much too valuable to blow on transitory benefits. |

You could flip the system around, and have personal awards but allow contributions of those points to a pool. Perhaps the group all agrees that everyone donates 1 CP, or half their CP, or all their CP, to the common pool. The cooperative group that wouldn't have a problem with the first system would likely cooperate in the last. And if the pool didn't work, people could just stop contributing to it. |
