Frex; a unicorn, a wellspring, a soulstone, a dryad, or a psi-crystal.

If they are useable as batteries to power magic spells (brute force) or act as foci for invoking greater powers (more subtle), I feel then it's a mattter of degree; what does possession grant the possessor?
If it's power, then it's a battery; if the result is enlightenment or furtherance of your aims, it's a focus.

Hope this is useful.
You raise a point. Would this "magicstuff" be solid, liquid, gaseous? Perhaps a gel or other highly viscous fluid (variations on liquid)?

It could be an energetic discharge that you need a battery for

Liquid mana sounds close to Paut.

I like the term "Vis", from Ars Magica.

After looking at all the other alternatives, I've been thinking about the various names again. Vril is obviously derived from "viril", which makes me think of Jack Vance's stories. Vis is neat, might be derived from "vision", which ties into mages being able to perceive the hidden world. But I think I might use Ylem as my all-around word - good solid etymological derivation, phonetically non-Latinate, and has that tinge of the otherworld.
