BTW, after much though, and brainstorming with my gaming group, we decided on the following translations for Thrust and Swing:
  • Thrust -> Acometida (Official 3rd ed translation)
  • Swing -> Revés (The official 3rd ed translation was Mandoble, and IMHO this one is better. It means backhand, when in a Tennis vontext, and it's the closest thing we could think.)

Now, I'll proffread my corrections for the inevitable typos, and once I have them ready, send them to SJG by email.

Then it would be better to use "volea" instead of "revés", wouldn't it? :) Mmmm... I find that translation somewhat unsatisfactory. Maybe simply "Golpe"? Or "Gancho"?

On the other hand, I do agree that "Acometida" is the best we have for "Thrust".

Congrats again for your hard work! ¡Menudo curro, amigo!

Well, Revés was the best we found. It's somewhat unsatisfactory, that's true, but then we found the alternatives to be worse:
-We discussed "Azote", but found it worse than Revés. It was a strong contender.
-"Mandoble" (the 3rd ed option) was unsuitable because it means two handed sword.
-Gancho would be confusing, since it's more often associated to unarmed combat, and unarmed combat nearly always does thrust damage
-Golpe is IMHO way too bland

BTW, who should I send the corrections to? Steve Jackson himself? errata@sjgames.com?

True.

However, can be useful to keep in mind the earlier GURPS Spanish edition/translation (third edition, no compendiums, almost no supplements, relative quality...) wasn't very popular. It even arouse a certain degree of rebuff.

While Almafeta's advice is good and useful, yesterday I thought "Golpe" as a possible translation for "Swing", too.

Yes, I *believe* all us agree with this point.

I think "Golpe" (English "Hit") is a very straightforward term. However, Thrust/Swing attacks would be "ataques de acometida y golpe", while Thrust/Swing damage would be "daño de acometida y daño de golpear". To my eyes, it could be worse.

So I almost think "Golpe" is a suitable translation for the GURPS "Swing".

I think someone of SJG staff could answer this question better, but as you know, the default trail for suggesting corrections is the one you just pointed above.

Not Steve, his plates full enough and (at the risk of sounding really... weird) this sort of thing is beneath him (that is, he is much farther up the chain than the guy who's gonna hafta to fix all this).

Not errata because, frankly, this isn't errata this is... a mess, to put it bluntly.

Right now, I'm not entirely sure what the game plan is for dealing with this. Mostly because nobody's back around the office yet. Holidays and all. Will let you guys know when I've learned more.

To echo Fox, the people who need to be aware of this are aware of it, and are being quiet because it's dead week at the office. Sit tight, don't e-mail anyone, and let the wheels turn. This issue won't be lying around for long, I'm sure.

Hola, mis amigos! Soy el hombre que...

Wait, I better stop relying on my 10-year-old rusty Spanish.

Anyway, I'm stepping up to act as the collector of the corrections for GURPS Lite (Spanish Edition). For those of you who read the previous version and made corrections, if you could e-mail those corrections to me at smarsh@sjgames.com, I would be appreciative. I know some of you used formatting when making your corrections, so I can accept Word, HTML, RTF, or plain-text corrections.

I'd love to get these corrections as soon as possible, if possible.

Muchas gracias!

I'm already in communication with Steven Marsh via email. Let's hope that things go swiftly, and we can have GURPS Lite Spanish Edition ASAP!

Thank you Steven and Kuroshima!

I wanted to be more involved helping here, but I hope to see a correct GURPS Lite Spanish, at last.

Maybe a few of us can help (myself included) in the final steps of the revision prior to the release, if you want -after all the hard work already done!
...(This would be mostly a quick proofreading of the final text for detecting typos.)

Independently of this suggestion, we will be waiting for news.

So I couldn't help but notice that this thread is two years old, and there's still no spanish version of GURPS Lite on e23. Did it require a whole new design? What happened?
