Shouldn't that be spelled noublette, or at least nooblette?

Go to winehq.org and look under the "download" link. The version held in the official repo of most distros is outdated.

I'm very interested in getting GCA working on the shiny new machine, as it has MUCH better everything than my old windows machine does, and GCA is one of the last things still tethering me to the windows environment.

The others are going to take a lot more work to shift to Wine unfortunately, but if I get the easy one moved over at least I'll have made some progress ;)
Personally, I use a WinE manager, called PlayOnLinux. It's designed for games, and simplifies having a separate independent WinE environment (with each app having their own version of WinE if desired) for each app. It also includes scripts to generate the environtment configurations for poplar software and games (so you can mostly install WoW with it, without having to know how to tinker with WinE)

Doesn't WoW mostly work on WINE in general, out of the box? Aside from via logout bug, that is.

Don't know, it's been a long while since I played WoW.

Again, to me, the main use of PlayOnLinux is to have to automatically download WinE versions, keeping multiple WinE versions for different programs, automated management of WinE prefixes, etc etc.

I think it's nice, but can be a pain to jump through the hoops when trying to install a more complex titles. Sims 3 runs great under Wine, but Play-on-Linux actually makes it kind of cumbersome to install the half-dozen expansions. It's rare that a GUI can be less intuitive and user friendly than CLI, but it is.

Yeah, having to go through the dialogs for every expansion can be a pain in the arse. Still, it's a handy tool.

I was thinking English (diminutive, ie little noob) rather than French (where I get confused). But I bet I got confused anyways.

Noob-chan? Am I even doing that right?

I'm sort of impressed that it took me all the way until step 4, but I am apparently now in an alternate universe from you.

I ran winetricks, with the WINEPREFIX, and ... I get a) a prompt to install Gecko, and then a failure to install gecko, and b) a radio button list asking if I want to view help, install an app, install a game, install a benchmark, select the default wineprefix...

No checkboxes, nothing that looks like anything you have above (ie, it's all in english, no package names). :/

Does anyone care to have a writeup of how to install VirtualBox and use it to run windows whatever and GCA under Linux/Ubuntu? It's MUCH better than Wine and you only need a product key for your Windows box.

[Virtualbox runs Windows in a window on Linux or other ways around]. a 2GHz 2Gig machine will run windows 7 in a box and GCA4, no problem]
