Ogre Dice
Setting aside all earth-bound questions for the moment (like whether SJG would license such a thing, and what on Earth you'd use them for in the first place), how many people would actually want Ogre Dice such as these?
And while I'm asking semi-hypothetical questions anyway… if you would want them… How many would you want? (Two? Four? Six? Fifty-seven?) How much would you be willing to pay, per die? ($1.50 each? $3.00? Or conversely, how much would be so much that you'd pass entirely?) If there was a choice, what two-color combination would you want? The six faces shown in the example are: INF 1, INF 2, INF 3, GEV, MSL, and HVY. If you could choose different faces (or perhaps additional ones, if they were d8 or d12 or something), what would they be? And lastly: If you had such dice, what would you use them for? Or stick all the infantry on 1 d12 and leave the MIL out altogether. Having said all that, I'm not sure that they would be used all that often within a game. Maybe as a seperate game or a travel version of Ogre, much like a really complex version of rock-scissors-paper. |

Re: Ogre Dice
I'd prefer to stick with D6's, just because that's what Ogre uses.
I'd buy a bunch though. Especially if I could get them in the oriiginal black and white counter color schemes, as well as fancier colors. Blue and red would work well for me, since those are the colors I chose for my Combine and PE armies. I'd pay up to a $1.50 each, although I would prefer to buy them as a set.

Re: Ogre Dice
I'd buy some, but I'd prefer something a little simpler. Perhaps as a normal die but with the OGRE counter as the 6 face. That way the die can can be used for normal games. I think the classic black and white scheme as per the original counter set would look good.
[Edit] And also the Nuclear warning symbol as the 1 face. kewl... Having said that, using them as reinforcement die is rather clever too...

Re: Ogre Dice
I would want at least a dozen in two different color schemes (red/gold and blue/gold). I would pay $1 to $1.50 each but I too would prefer to get them as a set. I would also like to have some sort of die for the cybertanks.
Respectfully, Dragon505

Re: Ogre Dice
wait, I know...
Package the Ogre dice in randomly packed boxes, making sure that the most commonly used dice are rarest, then charge an arm and a leg for them... Why is everyone picking up torches and pitchforks?

Regarding price… there are several options for custom dice, and of course one gets what one pays for. Cheap plastic is the, uh, cheapest, obviously; acrylic is a bit more — you there, stack some more wood around his feet! — and resin is the most expensive (but arguably the best quality). And of course regardless of the material, the more of 'em you buy, the cheaper they are per unit. There are numerous sources for cheapo plastic dice; but frankly — somebody club him, he's still squirming! — I'd rather pay a bit extra to get acrylic. Both Chessex and Crystal Caste will do custom acrylic dice with laser engraving, and — not with the torch, you dolt! that's gasoline on those logs! get away from there! — they both charge exactly the same rates; but as you can see, even at a total of 200-499 dice, the price per die would still be $3. And obviously, making more than one type of die would mean a separate bill for each; so if possible, it would be better — okay, back away and read him the charges! — to do a single die. If we could get a total of 1000 dice to order, Q-Workshop could do them in polyester resin, for (if I'm reading it right) $1.50-$3.00 each; and Q-Workshop does some truly beautiful dice, too. They even make the Official Munchkin Dice for SJG, so — there's no use crying now, you self-confessed 'Collectible' purveyor! — you know they must be good. Okay, light him up! {Edit: Actually, I just checked, and there are two different Official Munchkin Dice. The ones SJG sells at Warehouse 23 are not the same as the "Wicked" Munchkin Dice licensed by Q-Workshop.} Last edited by FireHorse; 06-02-2008 at 08:30 PM. |
