In reading the FAQ for Munchkin, I came across the item about using a class' power in combat, then discarding the class. The example was for the Warrior class. Any bonuses granted by discarding remain for the combat, you may then play another class. Let's say I've discarded 3 cards for a +3 bonus, then discarded Warrior. Here's my questions (prepare for Munchkinry):
Can I play another Warrior card and then discard further cards, potentially exceeding the +3 limit?

Yes you can play another Warrior, no you can't discard more cards and get a bigger bonus than the maximum. The maximum bonus a Warrior can get from berserking is +3, so you can't discard more cards to get a bigger bonus if you already have a +3.

In a related question, if I play cards for a class bonus and lose my class, do I still get the bonus? For example, if I was a warrior and discarded three cards and then became a cleric, do I still get the three plus? Same question with Charming as a wizard, or turning as a cleric.

And if you're fighting an Undead, could you discard three cards to get the +3 for Warrior, then play the cleric card and discard three cards for a +9 bonus? By that point you've discarded six cards, so I don't know that I'd mind someone getting a +12 bonus, but just checking.

HBTR: Based on the facts that the original question already stated that the FAQ said as much and that my answer did not refute that portion of the question, you should be able to see that the answer to your question is, "Yes, you get to keep the bonuses."
Cuchullain: The rules say that the moment you discard a Class, you lose its abilities immediately, and the moment you play a new Class, you gain its abilities, immediately. Notice the term abilities. So, the bonuses garnered by discards for berserking stay after you discard your Warrior card, and if you become a cleric, you have a new ability, but you would have to discard more cards to use it. It's not like your old discards count for your new ability. |

Another related question came out this night on our local forum:
Cleric can use his abilities only against Undead monsters. What happens to Cleric's bonus if Undead monster is out of combat (e.g. replaced via Illusion)? If bonus is gone, will it reappear if another Undead monster is added to battle? |

Whoa! Good question!
I would cite this FAQ: Quote:

You are correct Mental_Myopia, the Cleric would keep the bonus. However, the bonus is against Undead monsters. If there aren't any Undead monsters in the combat anymore, then he's not at +9. I would think if new Undead monster appeared, the cleric would be at +9. So, the power stays once you've discarded, but the power still only does what it says it does.

i have to ask - The Blessed Mallet of St Ewwwww - can a cleric turn undead, stop being a cleric, become a warrior, go berserk, play the blessed mallet, turn undead again, for a grand total of nine discards and a +15 to the combat? obviously assuming the munchkin's hands are empty and it's his turn.
