That helps a lot. What you drew is not what you described (as far as how I was interpreting it, anyway). I can see how what's drawn would work (the key being visually able to differentiate weapon types and have the APs outside the graphic so they don't get lost).

I came up with the idea of dispensing with boxes as I was making that sketch; in my OP I was envisioning a Car Wars sheet, straight across: boxes in appropriate locations, with shapes around some of them.
People with visual skill could probably think of a couple other ways to do it. |
