Please don't lose that card it always makes me laugh. I know its dated but some times you need weird for weirdness sake.

I hear that the Russians are suspected of doing a lot more than donating to a particular campaign. How about Russian Campaign Meddlers?

"Foreign Interference" will age better and will probably induce fewer people (on all sides of the political icosahedron) to write us caustic letters.

Good point, but then I cannot throw in a cartoon reference when an opponent uses them to thwart my plans. :)

FEMA... all of the other cards give bonuses (+2, +3, +5, etc.). This is the only one that gives a penalty (-5). It might make more sense to reword it to give a bonus to the groups defending rather than a penalty to the group making the attack.

Another (probably more important) disadvantage is square cards impact the layout strategy element of the game. The rectangular shape leads to some placement challenges, which is part of the fun. Square cards are more likely to "always fit" where rectangular ones will not. We don't want to change that, do we?

I tend to agree that having all of the cards square may be less desirable. How about we take a quick look at a power structure in these different form factors?

Figure 1 shows the legacy (at least in the U.S.A.) situation. There are good gaps between arms of the conspiracy, because the incoming arrows are always on the left or right sides of the cards, so each new puppet stretches outward from its master into the world it-- (too flowery? Okay, moving on).

Next let's look at Figure 2. Here all of the cards are square, and everything fits together perfectly into a grid. In fact, it fits so perfectly it might become difficult to tell who was controlled by whom.

Then we have an alternative; figure 3 uses a rectangular Illuminati card and square group cards. This causes some separation between the horizontal and vertical arms that makes it easier to visually determine lines of control, and still makes for some challenging configuration conundrums. This might, however, be less than desirable for production.

Thoughts?

As a rare Discordian who became a Freemason (how better to mess with people than from the inside, right?), I'm conflicted on the Fraternal Orders alignments. I know full well the game parodies groups, but I'm tempted to suggest that both Weird and Straight apply, which would make them an interesting case when attacked by opposite or identical alignment groups.

I would also regret seeing the Semiconscious Liberation Army disappear, although they were already a dated reference when the game first came out.

The Fiendish Fluoridators, on the other hand, I'd be just as happy to lose. Underground Newspapers also seem pretty dated, actually.

I'm sorry to see that the Reformed Church of Satan seems to have been cut -- and surely Satanists are a conspiracy perennial.

Shouldn't Video Games have their name updated? Even if MMORPG is kind of a mouthful.

Russian Campaign Donors are guaranteed to look dated in a surprisingly short time -- much as the Chinese Campaign Donors did -- and I would recommend against including them.

I'm honestly not sure whether Antifa is going to have legs or not: being a cautious sort, I'd probably exclude them, but I could see going either way.

I love this game so much I had already started working on an updated version for my own amusement. Here's the ones had I replaced so far:

Copy Shops -> Coffee Shops
Empty Vee -> Pop Music
Girlie Magazines -> Porn Industry (Internet Pr0n is way better name!)
Junk Mail -> SPAM
Moonies -> Nihlists
Nephews of God -> Radical Islam (meaning cool BMX/skateboard tricks of course :P)
Phone Phreaks -> Bot Nets
Society for Creative Anarchism -> Anonymous
The Phone Company -> Silicon Valley
Underground Newspapers -> Independent Bookstores

Also I made more major changes to the Illuminati groups, not sure if those are up for review or not but I can share if there is interest.
