Default House Rules for Bola

We have agreed to have a house rule for bola so that it can be thrown without targeting a specific part of a body - but of course, you have to roll which body part you hit (the object is to give a bit more variation to tactics as characters tend to usually just use swords (etc) and bows).

If you would allow this, how would you rule what happens when a bola hits the…

Skull - the opponent might need to roll vs stun?
Face - the opponent might need to roll vs stun? or blinded for few rounds?
Right/left Leg - possibly entangling the legs
Right/Left Arm - nothing?
Torso - nothing?
Groin - nothing?
Left/Right Hand - possibly drops what holding in hand
Left/Right Foot - possibly entangling the legs
Neck - possibly chokes the opponent

I think the eyes count as more attached to the skull than to the face; the face is the softer parts lower down. Note for example that you can stick something into the eye and penetrate the interior of the skull, bypassing its DR. So I wouldn't have blinding from a face hit.

Good point, sounds logical.

I am pretty sure that Technical Grappling has this covered.

A bola is long enough to wrap around the body. You could treat a hit to either leg or foot as entangling the legs, and a hit to the torso or either arm or hand as entangling the arms. I would say a "hit" to the torso implies you get at least one arm (otherwise it's not really an effective hit, just a "miss" that wraps around the torso), perhaps a hit by two degrees of success gets both arms?
