Default The Collaborative Gamer: GURPS Content Posts

I plan on using this thread to flag when a new GURPS-related post appears on The Collaborative Gamer blog. Since that seems to be what GURPS bloggers do!

To catch up:
  1. My first couple of posts have been about my relatively crazy ideas for playing GURPS without a GM. And here's another post on that topic.
  2. Then I put a stupidly large array of tables for generating adventures, and posted about that.

There. Now you're up to date!

....aaaaaaand now there's a new GURPS-related post on The Collaborative Gamer.

This post is about Matt Rigsby's idea of "N" (from DF Adventures 1: Mirror of the Fire Demon), as compared with Christopher Rice's idea of "CER" (Challenge Effectiveness Rating, from "It's a Threat!" in Pyramid 3/77: Combat).

I also throw my own (much tattier) hat into the ring by introducing the vaguely similar idea I use: "Peril Rating." It's a bit like B.A.D. from GURPS Action, but for DF, and with a few extra adjustments.

Enjoy!

... and another new GURPS-related post has just gone live on The Collaborative Gamer..

This time I've uploaded a fairly extensive system of tables for creating Fantasy worlds, to go with the big array of tables for creating Fantasy/DF adventures I uploaded a few days back.

As I mention on the blog, this system is designed specifically for GURPS. For example, the various “Climates” and “Terrain Types” that the system generates match up as far as possible with the established specialties of the Survival skill. Stuff like that.

Plus, like all my tables, these tables use only six-sided dice – and wherever possible, they use the good old 3d6, of course!

Maybe another post tomorrow - Thursday is GURPSday, after all!* No, I don't intend to keep up this pace, but it's nice to hit the ground running...

* (I just wish I had something intelligent to say about Disarming)

I like the blog and the idea so far.

The navigation on your site is painful on a desktop. Every single table is its own page.

Have you thought of making these tables programmed so I can just enter data and push a button to get results?

This. I love large collections of tables like that, but having to click and scroll around for every single possible step is really, really frustrating. One great big page with all the tables would be wonderful.

Ah, thanks greatly for pointing this out - it's exactly the kind of feedback I need.

It's exactly the kind of feedback I want, too, since putting it all in a few big pages would be so much easier. So far I've been putting all the tables on separate pages and then using links to create a whole choose-your-own adventure style series of paths between them - the goal being an easier experience for the reader. If all that effort is actually proving counterproductive, then that's great news - I can revert to doing things the easier way!

I'll try to sort this out some time over the next few days.

Thanks again for the feedback about the format - and for your positivity about the underlying material.

Right! Your wish is my command.

I've reformatted both of the big systems I posted over the last few days, so as to minimize clicking, and to put as many tables as practicable on the one page. I'd appreciate any feedback from people as to whether or not the format is working better now.*

The links are here:

A Fairly Big System of Tables for Generating Fantasy Adventures

A Fairly Big System of Tables for Generating Fantasy Worlds

As always, thanks to anyone who takes the time!

*Or about anything else, for that matter!

Much better now, thank you.

Thursday is GURPSDay! Which means a new post on The Collaborative Gamer.

This one is a (very minor, but hopefully clearly written) contribution to GURPS Melee Academy. The topic? Disarming.
