Default Hans Rancke-Madsen has passed away

It has been announced that Hans Rancke has passed away on the 9th of October. I don't know any more details than the announcement below.

There is an announcement/remembrance at the Citizen's of the Imperium site

I am shocked and deeply saddened by this loss. I have been a fan of Hans over the years, from the TML to the various forums for Traveller today, always on the lookout for his messages. No one was more knowledgable of Traveller canon, certainly no one was more outspoken. I always appreciated his insights, and I know the Traveller community is diminished by his loss.

That's sad news. He and I argued a lot, but he was unfailingly reasonable and courteous, and I learned things from him. And he was younger than I am, not yet 60, which strikes me as tragically young. I'll miss him here.

I only knew Hans through Traveller discussion boards, and a brief effort to collaborate via e-mail on a couple of JTAS articles (one mine, one his). But I knew him that way for so long that I thought of him as a friend.

If I ever get around to finishing my JTAS article (presumably for Mongoose, now that JTAS is on its way out), I'll ask that a few words in memory of Hans appear with the article.

Here's the text of the funeral announcement tjoneslo linked:

Hans Ranke-Madsen
* 4. august 1956 † 9. oktober 2015
er uventet gået bort
Elsket og savnet
Else, Helga, Anne, Rasmus
Begravelsen finder sted fra Kildevældskirken, fredag den 23. oktober, kl 11.00 med efterfølgende jordfæstelse på Mariebjerg Kirkegård

And a Google translation, corrected where I could:

Hans Rancke-Madsen
* August 4, 1956 † October 9, 2015
has unexpectedly passed away
Loved and missed
Else, Helga, Anne, Rasmus
The funeral will take place from Kildevæld Church, Friday, Oct. 23, at 11:00, followed by interment at Mariebjerg Cemetery

Additionally, I found this personal reminiscence from someone who knew him:
"Hans Rancke-Madsen 1957-2015"
If you use an automatic translation, note that the translators mistake the name "Hans" for the possessive pronoun "hans", which means "his". The automatic translations are otherwise reasonable.

Is two weeks the usual time before a Danish funeral?

I have no idea, but Denmark is a fairly cold country. As far back as 1100 years ago, ibn Fadlan was shocked by the relaxed Germanic attitude to getting corpses underground. It could well be that it's a perfectly normal time interval. Or it could be that there's an autopsy scheduled because his death (age 58) was apparently unexpected.

Like many I discussed things with Hans and sometimes clashed with him on matters Traveller, he was very knowledgeable and argued with both determination and courtesy. A sad loss to his family.
