Default D20 Dragonstar

Greetings,
I was wondering if anyone has some experience with Dragonstar? I've read the Wikipedia entry, but am looking for thoughts of someone who has actually GMed/played it.

Is it a fun setting?
Does the D20 system work well with it, or is it clunky?
Anything in particular work very well?
Anything in particular work very poorly?
Character ideas options/suggestions?

Thanks.

I've played in a couple of games, and while I like GURPS better than d20 i had a lot of fun in dragonstar. It's worth it to track down the books for the source material if nothing else.

So basically an interesting setting with the d20 engine.

The Wikipedia entry says: ",,, It is similar to the classic Spelljammer setting by TSR, although Dragonstar is more of a blend of science fantasy and space opera. ..."

How so?

As background, a guy has offered to DM, and I'm considering whether to try it or not.

Having read through it in the past, I wish I could play it. Take the offer.

I've got the original Dragonstar book, written for the 3rd edition of D&D. I haven't played it, though.

The feel of the setting is very boiler-plate SF, though there are some neat magitech ideas in there, like soulmechs (robots with souls) and I think the warp drive of the setting was actually supposed to be magical. Other than that, I didn't get the impression that the fantasy elements were that well thought out either. Each of the fantasy races from the D&D Players Handbook had a place in the setting, but it seemed mostly to be an excuse to conveniently allow D&D characters to fit in and save work on designing aliens.
