Tricorner Arena
William Tetley posted on Twitter an image of the Tricorner Arena, a map he used for a recent Car Wars event.
The Tricorner Arena from my weekend #CarWars event. The corner turrets discourage "loitering." https://twitter.com/WilliamTetley/st...51838146023424 William Tetley @WilliamTetley 6:27 PM - 14 Jan 2015

Re: Tricorner Arena
Where would he be posting the details of this arena - on Twitter? I am not familiar with this arena.

The Tricorner Arena can be viewed and downloaded at williamtetley.com. The site is a work in progress. Other download options and a detailed description will follow.

Re: Tricorner Arena
Thank you! Incredible how you are able to store such large files that look awesome! Your Web site looks great so far. Keep up the outstanding work.
I liked the previous title of your Web site, "It all started with one Pocket Box," if I remember correctly.

Re: Tricorner Arena
What do the green, light gray and dark gray areas mean? Are there any features we should know about the arena? Is this intended as a race arena or a duel arena? I look at it as a hybrid arena. I could see some OR trikes in the middle at the same time some cars are lapping around the light gray loop. The cars are hesitant to enter the green and the trikes are staying in the green to maximize OR tires......
Hehehehe -John PS - Is there a history / write-up on this arena? |

Re: Tricorner Arena
That's a pretty interesting looking arena. Very basic. I've only ever fought in closed arenas with objects in the middle (Buffalo, Texas Armadillo, Dumbarton, etc.) or on open road.
Do you get more "carnage" or action in open arenas? |

Re: Tricorner Arena
I used a 1" hex battlemap to make my own "tri-corner" arena for a three-way duel in January.
Here's a blog post with picture: https://autoduel.wordpress.com/2015/...-corner-arena/ I haven’t actually seen any other arenas drawn on a hex grid. Is this something that others have tried? |

Re: Tricorner Arena
The darker grey areas are standard road/asphalt - no penalty to HC, but not "on the track"; the light grey are well-maintained racing track for the racing slick tires to take advantage of (NASCAR quality, I guess); the green in the middle is off-road. To be honest, this was my first arena in 20 years, I just wanted a weird one for my small (3-player, including me) group to have fun with. I ran it as a race, first team to 4 laps wins, or the surviving team (3 teams of 2, I ran 2 teams as NPCs: non-player cars). One player completed a single full lap (the winner). It quickly became your standard Car Wars slaughter, and it was lots of fun. Maybe 15 seconds game time.
I love the idea of hybrid events that possumknavel suggested. Cars on the track and OR vehicles (bikes and trikes?) on the grass. I'm definitely mentioning that to my guys. Also, to K-Slacker, I haven't done anything with a hex-grid, but your arena looks very cool. Much smaller than what I did with this, tighter confines, lots of maneuvering. I'll also share it with my guys. I appreciate the interest and questions. I almost forgot, the corner turrets change weapons based on events: pure racing events get flame-retardant foam sprayers, amateur night gets HRs launched at timid newbies hiding in the corners (they usually miss, but get in the fight, newbie), basically whatever gets the crowd cheering. |
