Default Alchemist + Tripelgangers question (Pathfinder)

Hey, guys! Clarification question here.

During Munchkin Pathfinder a player was an Alchemist and thus had the benefit of Usable Once Only Items having double the combat bonus. He then played Tripelgangers, which add double the player's level to his/her combat strength.

Since he was level nine and the combat was for game, there was much debate over what was claimed. He said that since he was level 9 and the Tripelgangers would normally add 18 for a total of 27 (before items and other modifiers), since he was an Alchemist it doubled their potency, making them 36 and his total (minus other factors) a level of 45.

Here was the debate: he claimed that the Tripelgangers were a "bonus" to his level, so he should get the Alchemist trait to apply. The other side of the argument was that the Tripelgangers card says they double the players level to add to his/her combat *strength* while the Alchemist skill only doubles an item's combat *bonus,* not strength. It was argued that a player's Level and bonus were two separate variables, so combat strength and combat bonus should be two separate variables as well.

Again, the wording is that the Alchemist skill doubles a Usable Only Once item's combat bonus while the Tripelgangers add to a player's combat strength.

Thoughts?

I believe your Alchemist friend is right. The Tripelgangers would be worth 9*2*2 = +36 combat bonus.

The Alchemist does double the Triplegangers. Official answer (and I wrote the card, so I know what I intended).

Wow, powerful combination! Looks like our group will be extra paranoid of Alchemists from now on. Thanks for the response, Andrew!
