Default Reign of Steel question...

I was reading a Pyramid article about the RoS setting set 20 years later, as the Zoneminds start expanding into space, and it mentioned an 'SAU-5', the shipbrain AU.

Which made me realize I missed something somewhere. The SAU-1 is the robofac supervisor, the SAU-2 is the Centurion, but what are the SAU-3 and SAU-4? I missed an SAU or two somewhere.

Actually, there doesn't seem to be an "SAU-01" model. The Overseer is SAU-02, and the Centurion is SAU-03 (Reign of Steel, p. 74). So there's only one "gap" to fill there. Personally, I'd guess the SAU-04 is a naval/underwater model. That seems like the obvious niche, especially since the SAU-05 is apparently the space model.

The SAI-01 is the Zonemind AI. Mind levels change within a single letter sequence - see for example VNU-01, VNU-02, VAU-03.

But I agree that I haven't seen an Sxx-04 design published anywhere.

Yeah, I looked that up later and saw the same thing in the original text. So the S series 1 is the zonemind, the Sau-2 is the robofacs/citadel brain, and the Sau-3 is the Centurion. Then we have the spaceship brain, the Sau-5.

Maybe it was just a misprint/error?

Maybe some consistently rogue prototype never reproduced again?

Maybe the Zone Tokyo rogues or Lucifer are from that bunch.

SAU-4 was the semi-truck model. Discontinued and all but one scrapped.

I am pretty sure it was a Transformer joke (Optimus Prime).

No, it was a joke about Lucifer, the human-friendly Zonemind housed in two semi-trucks.
