Default Catfolk Martial Artist

Going to run Deep End and the Star and probably some other adventures with a group. One of them wants to play a Catfolk Martial Artist and specialize in Karate. Looks like it can be difficult to fit that into a paltry 250 points. Martial Artist has 40 discretionary points - all that will go to the racial template. And if you want to specialize in Karate, you really want Unarmed Master [25]. So I'll have to drop something.

Suggestions? Or is it just a bad idea?

If the goal is to have stupid-high DX, I'd say "too bad."

Otherwise, save 20 points by lowering the professional template's DX to 15, and use the racial DX+1 to get it back to 16. Spending the standard 40 advantage points on the racial template will leave 20 points to play with, which with 5 points from quirks would be just enough for Unarmed Master. It's tight, but just about all cat-folk racial advantages are useful to martial artists, while few cat-folk downsides matter . . . well, except for ST-1, which is more than offset by Striking ST 2 and, for an unarmed fighter, Claws.

So this catfolk martial artist has ST 10 and Striking ST 2... and Power Blow. When she uses Power Blow does her effective ST become (10x2)+2 = 22 or (10+2)x+2 = 24?

Power blow specifically doubles your ST for damage purposes. Striking ST adds to ST for determining damage, so it should be counted for Power Blow. 24.

24 feels right for damage purposes. You can also activate it for lifting, and then it will be ST 20. I have spoken.
