Mounts for the Particularly Heavy?
In a fantasy campaign I'm going to be running, we have a Knight who, when fully geared for combat, clocks in at 1,015 lbs! What kind of beast short of an elephant could he possibly use as a mount?

Re: Mounts for the Particularly Heavy?
Wow, what all is he wearing? SM +1 full plate armor with multiple weapons scaled for SM +1 or even +2?
Mind, one of the (now-extinct) North African elephants, the kind used by Hannibal and last recorded during Ptolemic Egypt, isn't a bad idea for this guy. I can't think of any other mounts he'd use, unless you have a Dire Horse statted out someplace.

Re: Mounts for the Particularly Heavy?
He's SM+1 cause of Gigantism, wearing Super-Heavy plate (made using the rules for Heavy Plate in Low-Tech 2) with a full set of mail being layered underneath, with 2 Spiked Dwarven large shields, all sized for him. I picture him as a sliding lump of iron, or a tank chassis without the cannon

Re: Mounts for the Particularly Heavy?
1000 lbs almost seems light then, SM+1 DR 14 plate is near 400lbs itself
How much ST is this guy? |

Re: Mounts for the Particularly Heavy?
STR 25, 350 lb. of person (probably a bit light for that amount of bulk), 7'2", 664 lb. of gear

Re: Mounts for the Particularly Heavy?
If you want to fit within medium encumbrance, you need a ST of 42, which is default for a creature weighing 9300 lb. There are no mundane land animals other than elephants that large.

Re: Mounts for the Particularly Heavy?
Real animals are going to have problems. His best bet would be a dire mount as suggested above, if he wants to be able to buy it with money.
I would say he should get his mount as an Ally, especially if he expects to ride it a lot. If I were him I would try for a Dragon, but most GMs probably wouldn't allow it. Although, at ST 25, there might be enough points to do it.

Re: Mounts for the Particularly Heavy?
Agree with the dire mounts. Dire rhinoceros.
The real problem is going to be feeding a mount this size, unless it's supernatural in nature with some sort of Reduced Consumption, or even Doesn't Eat or Drink. A bronze golem fashioned in the shape of a horse? Dragons however, are very subjective campaign to campaign. IMC, a dragon large enough to carry him wouldn't be an Ally, it would be a Patron. |
