Default Adventure Time Munchkin: Door Lord

My household loves this new expansion but we ran into a problem when we had a player fight the Door Lord.

The monster is Level 8 and reads "Players must work together to defeat him. He gets +10 when in combat with a single player."

Having 'must' in the text says to me that you're forced into getting help from another player in order to beat the monster (which no one is likely to do when it's a game winning battle). But the modifier text throws it off by suggesting it can be defeated by a single player regardless of the previous statement. So which way does the door swing? Pun intended.

I've checked the forums and official rules with the game and have found nothing, nor can my Google-Fu come up with anything. Any ideas/suggestions?

The "must" sentence is flavor text, not a rule. It is confusing, I agree.
