Mr. Bones
When you fight Mr.Bones it says if you do not defeat him loose a level. Is this before or after the die roll is resolved.

Re: Mr. Bones
Until you roll the dice, you don't know whether you've beaten him or not. So, after.

Re: Mr. Bones
unless he meant the escape roll.
Not defeating him, as Andrew said, requires your total combat strength (including dice rolls, if you have any) to be lower than Mr. Bones' (also including his own dice roll). You would lose a level in this case, and STILL have to run away (just like in the normal version). If you fail to escape, you then get his bad stuff on top of that. In case you're at level one, and cannot lose a level for not being able to beat him, I think you'd take 1 point of damage. I'm not sure if it's written on his card or not, but I'm pretty sure that that's what would happen.

Re: Mr. Bones
It's not written on the card because it's written in the rules: if the Bad Stuff does not affect you, take a hit.

Re: Mr. Bones
I know that, but I meant about the "lose 2 levels" if you don't beat the monster, but manage to run away.
You'd normally take a hit due to failing to beat him, but, would you take another hit because the "lose 2 levels" condition would have no effect on a level 1?

Re: Mr. Bones
You take a hit if you cannot suffer the Bad Stuff. If you successfully Run Away, you do not suffer Bad Stuff and do not lose a hit. Any other effects are not part of the Bad Stuff and are not affected by this rule.

So, yes, AMOE, as is stated in the rules: If the Bad Stuff doesn't affect you, you take another hit. |

Re: Mr. Bones
Thanks for the clarification. I knew what I meant, but it wasn't exactly what I typed.

Re: Mr. Bones
No problem. I knew you'd answered the question, but I wasn't entirely sure if everyone would get that.
