Default Missile Shield Question

If my wizard casts missile shield (on himself) and an orc throws a spear at me, I understand that the spear will miss by a small amount.

What if the orc rolls a critical success?

I have heard of people allowing hits on a Crit successa s a House rule but there's no exception in the RAW.

There's a magical force deflecting all incoming missiles and how well they would have hit doesn't matter.

BUT there are few ways around the Missile Shield. One is that Sunbolt is not affected by Missile Shield.

Also in DF series you can find materials that are not affected by magic.

DF1 P27. "Meteoric iron is immune to magic"

I think the rule is, on a critical success, the orc still misses, but he knows that something is interfering. If he's familiar with Missile Shield, he knows it's that.

While they can't be hit with a projectile, concussion will still get them.

Rifle grenade to the hex they are standing in works pretty good.

Isn't one of the critical hit results "bypasses all defenses"?

Yes, but this only refers to defense rolls.
If it really meant "all defenses", then most of the critical hit table entries wouldn't make sense: "If any damage penetrates DR..." or "DR only protects at half value".

BTW: Do you allow blocking spells against critical hits?
Our houserule says: If you announce you will use Blink or Timeslip before the attack role - and cast it even if the attack fails -, then you avoided the blow completely before it turned out to be extra good.
Same is true for Fumble (for obvious reasons).
But Iron Arm would be too slow to block a critical hit.

With gurps always being about a contest...ie.nothing is 100%, my house rule has been to turn all blocking spells and the related regular spells into a contest of skills. this forces the mages to ramp up these skills becasuse they are vulnerable. ( the attack found a hole). The absolute of missile shield has bothered me and the other related spells.
