I've had the pseudovelocity drives in my game work like this. A pseudovelocity drive always puts you at rest relative to the largest gravitational mass in your proximity the instant it is activated and for the duration of it's activation. It doesn't matter if you have 0.5c real velocity while crashing into the earth, activate the reactionless drive and poof! 0 m/s real elocity compared to the surface of the earth. You can't accumulate real inertia, or be a KE bomb on centauri because at rest on earth is 0.1c over there.

I then insert some technobable about how space-time moves with mass and averages to explain why this works with multiple massive bodies in proximity (sun earth luna system, etc.)
