Curie sounds spot-on to me. Right time frame more or less, right fields of expertise, right reputation, marriage-related social stigma. That's where I'm putting my money.

Hmm, good points, but this person probably did more important work before 1880 than after.
Edit: also primarily a chemist, physics and many other sciences as secondary disciplines |

I'm pretty sure it's Julius Robert Oppenheimer, the Father of the Atomic Bomb; the languages, Literature skill and Reputation all match.

I guess it could be Oppenheimer, but he would also have some German language and Charisma and Administration as key traits.
