I never knew about the use of ¤. I always thought GURPS should use the Paraguayan guaraní symbol, ₲. In Dungeon Fantasy, maybe that can stand for "gold."

The only place I recall ever seeing ¤ used before is the original Sid Meier's Colonization. So to me, it tends to represent large investment levels of money.
"Hey, this is a good deal, I can get 500 tons of cotton cloth for ¤135. Now... can I fit that in my sloop?"

Personally I love pounds, shillings, and pence. In fact I've played for years with the idea of a monetary system that also uses stones (14 lbs.), hundredweight (112 lbs.), and tons (2240 lbs.). But my players don't like exotic units that much, and in fact they don't tend to want to do that much accounting in the first place.

I find that once you show someone a coin with quartering marks and some clipped quarters and halves, they usually get why coins are mostly factors of 12. This doesn't matter much do DFRPG though.
