Default Armory or Fast-Draw Critical Failure

An interesting thing happened to me recently that might be worth remembering if I ever need a critical failure result on Armory or Fast-Draw, so I thought I'd share it with you.

The evacuation zone for the Thomas Fire got within 2.1 miles of me, so for most of last week my car was loaded with stuff that I wouldn't want to leave behind. This included my sword. Somehow between the low humidity and heat, the sheath vacuum sealed onto the blade and now it is thoroughly stuck. I may have to remove the stitching in order to get it out.

Dude, that is not cool. I'm sorry.

However, you're right, those are great critical failures to inflict on a player.

So the sheathe is now like hardened leather? Cuirboilli is supposed to go on the swordsman not the sword.
At least you're okay. My sympathies.

On the subject of amusing and weird critical failures of armours, the Yugoslavian M56 submachine gun is designed in such a way that it's trivially easy to forget to lock the barrel to the trigger mechanism when putting it back together after a field strip. The gun will stay together for a while, then disassemble itself while firing.

The M60 machine gun has a somewhat similar issue where wear and tear on the parts can cause the trigger mechanism to fall off when firing. The M60 will then continue to fire, not stopping until it is out of ammo.

Pretty sure armory failure (or its default from melee weapons), as it being stuck is neither caused by an attempt to draw it fast, nor limited to only attempts to draw it fast.

No, the leather is still the same. It's just stuck fast and wrinkled about halfway down the blade.

I've tried prying it free with a coat hanger and can't break the seal.

I had trouble believing that, but it's demonstrated in this video.

Try soaking it with oil or leather treatment, like leather new.

Hmm...Take a pin, poke a hole near the bottom of the scabbard?

That might be a bit exciting, though. Not sure.

I was going to suggest this exactly. Had something similar happen to a roommate and that's exactly how we eventually solved it.

But he slowly, painstakingly (over several days) drizzled it into the sheathe... and then by the time he was done the sheathe was soaked through anyway defeating the whole "But I don't want to soak the whole sheathe" part of his painstakingly tedious plan.
