This is the GURPS forum, and it's also where I link up (thanks to the mods for allowing it) posts to my blog that talk about GURPS.

But I post about other things, too, and these days, both because it really is of interest to me, via dabbling in OSR games, and what it does to my traffic, I post a bit about DnD 5e.

What I've been doing is noting, when I make a GURPS post, that (say) there have been four or five DnD5 related posts in between my last GURPS post and this latest one.

I figure if y'all care, you'll go look. If not, not.

Anyway, just giving the lay of the land, for those curious.

Peter V. Dell'Orto posted a great play report from his Felltower game, and it was great for reasons in addition to high-quality fun. I took a look at the things that leaped out at me on a read-through over lunch, and there's a lot of good to be had. Furthermore, this session is a shining example of GURPS Dungeon Fantasy, in megadungeon mode, at its most fun. It's an object lesson in cool for those who doubt the system can handle the genre as well as any other.

Note: not saying "only GURPS can do this." Far from it. But in this case, Peter and his players dug in and knocked it out of the park.

Apoc527 takes three of my articles for a test drive, including one not yet published. He was good enough to provide a playtest report . . .

Inspired by Tim Shorts musing on the Sleep spell in D&D 5e, I take a look at Sleep in four games: GURPS, D&D/S&W, and Night's Black Agents. I'm not deeply versed in the magic and powers systems for any of the games, but the differences between the systems are notable. I did not do justice to NBA; I need to play it more (at all, really - that's a game I would love to sample), but the other two were fun to compare.

Thursday is GURPS-Day, and this entry is late due to Real Life and cranky baby.

Dual-Weapon Attack and Rapid Strike have always sat funny with me, since they are mutually exclusive, and seem to sort of do the same thing. The coexistence of the two caused some small amount of angst when considering multiple shots with firearms in my Alien Menace campaign, and made me want to see if I can eliminate DWA by merging it with Rapid Strike as a special case.

It wound up being a bit of an exercise, and I'm still not sure it really buys me anything . . . but it seems to be able to be done, whether or not it should be done.

So how was it done? Read on . . .

Nope. Not going to change anything in the campaign. But our conversation got me thinking.

("A dangerous pastime."

"I know.")

"Nooooo one tweaks rules like Doug!"

"In a wrestling match no one bites like Doug!"

"As a specimen yes he's...not as scary as his wife. Nope. Just not as scary as Lady Ass-kicker. Sorry."

Re-imagining Dual-Weapon Attack as a form of Committed Attack, building on ideas from yesterday.

For DWA, I figure there are two cases - two simultaneous attacks, or two attacks with one right after the other. For the first case, I treat it as a single RoF 2 Rcl 1 attack - you score a single hit with MoS 0, two hits with MoS 1+. If you hit with both, your target will avoid one (determine randomly, if needed) with MoS 0 on his defense, and will avoid both with MoS 1+ (a "Cross Parry" is applicable, and represents Parrying each attack with a different weapon). For the second case, it's just a two-weapon Rapid Strike. In both instances the penalty is -4 (which I do halve to -2 for TbaM/WM).

At least, that's my current thought. I'm considering having the first case still require two defenses (albeit possibly at no penalty) unless using Dodge or Dual-Weapon Parry (with a two-handed weapon).
