sir_pudding, it seems like you're more familiar with the rules of the thread - what is the proper protocol to follow when nobody guesses the character and the original poster is the one to "break the news"?

Does the original poster just get another turn?

I generally thought people were allowed to suggest new puzzles at random

That's what it's evolved into, but the original was that the person who guessed right got to post the next character.

The intolerance twigged me to the likely source, the spider-phobia narrowed it down.

I'm mainly irritated by people posting new puzzles when there is an active one that isn't even very old and not even attempting to guess it. Going by the first instance of an "unsolvable" puzzle, it seems the precedent is wait 8 hours and then one (and only one) volunteer can post a puzzle.
