Default Techniques for a DF halberdier

I don’t have much experience with Low Tech, Martial Arts, and Dungeon Fantasy and I’m getting into a Dungeon Fantasy game. I’m playing a cat-folk who uses a dueling halberd at reach, a flail closer in, and claws super close in. This is a lot of material to digest at once. Can you suggest some techniques or maneuvers for me to look into? Thank you!

For Perks:

Grip Mastery, which lets you switch between regular and defensive grips as a free action once per turn

Reach Mastery, which permits you to change the reach of the halberd as a free action once per turn

Sacrificial Parry, which permits you to interpose the halberd to intercept an attack against a teammate

For techniques, Sweep and Whirlwind Attack are probably the first ones to get. Targeted Attack is also a good option, buying off half the penalty to attack an opponent's body part or weapon.

A halberd can do cut or imp swing damage, or an impaling thrust attack, so you will want techniques to take advantage of all those. I forget if there's anything to affect Stop Hits, where you prepare the weapon so they enemy runs into it - especially useful in formation and against charging cavalry - but if there is someone here will remember it. For Stop Hits, Wait is a definite maneuver.

Also, make sure you buy a Dwarven Halberd, which removes the U from the Parry stat.

If the halberd's swing imp attack gets stuck in someone, it's usually best IME to leave it there and draw another weapon. Most people are quite squeamish about having large weapons stuck in them, if they're still conscious, and will try to remove them for you.

Hey there...I think you are one of my players! Am I right?

If not, that's one heck of a coincidence!

The GURPS Martial Arts Techniques Cheat-Sheet collects all the major Techniques into one place.

Since the whole list can be overwhelming focus on the MWS (Melee weapon skill) and WS (Weapon Skill) Techniques. The most relevant IMHO are:

*Close Combat
*Counterattack
*Dual-Weapon Attack
*Dual-Weapon Defense
*Feint
*Grand Disarm
*Retain Weapon (not viable with the claws for obvious reasons)
*Spinning Strike
*Springing Attack
*Sweep
*Whirlwind Attack

There are many others that could be useful but these are the ones that stand out for a DF setting.

A strong enough halberdist can possibly use the halberd as a lever to move the impaled person around, possibly into the enemy's comrades. Not sure how that'd work, besides an opposed ST check

Treat it as a weapon grapple followed by a forced move using the grappling rules.

Catfolk aren't likely to be strong enough to get away these sorts of shenanigans, unless they are Barbarians.

Do you have any specific examples? I don’t see any like that in MA or Basic.
