Default GURPS Kobolds

Just a thought: are there any special sources of inspiration for GURPS-style Kobolds, as depicted in Fantasy Folk and Banestorm? Or are they original work for the GURPS system?

(My apologies if this topic was addressed before!)

They seem partly derived from one of the races in the fantasy trip (prootwaddles? The noisy argumentative dim ones), but i don't know if that's the actual case.

Haha, never heard of prootwaddles (fartwaddles!?), but the name made me smile. =)

I'm reasonably certain that that's the case. IIRC, they're certainly similar enough.

Google: Kobold German myths.

Yes, I did at least read the wikipedia article on kobolds before asking, where I learnt that the kobold was usually invisible, and could materialize in seveal forms. It could also be a small humanoid, not unlike the swedish tomte. This is a bit different than our dim-witted blue fellows in fantasy folk, if you ask me!

Germanic kobolds were often small house sprites that helped with work or dark black/blue skinned miners that could easily find metals.

Both were on the prankster side, depending on the myths.

GURPS Kobolds are dim-witted blue skinned servants. It's the old myths taken a peg down from the mythic and fantastic into the 'every day normal'.

I think some people found their representation offensive or in bad taste, much like Gully Dwarves, Kender, and the GURPS Ghouls.

So, I'll present an alternate Kobold.

Kobolds (80 Points)
This race of tiny miners is distantly related to Goblins. They eat rocks and minerals and often resent human intruders stealing their food supplies. Dwarves and kobolds have an uneasy relationship but can respect each other's handiwork and taciturn demeanor. This particular interpretation draws on the Underfolk from The Silver Chair and Sonny from A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.

Attributes:
ST 6 [-40];
DX 12 [40];
IQ 10 [0];
HT 12 [20];

Feature:
Alternate Digestion (eats minerals not organisms, magical not natural chemosynthesis)

Advantages:
Very Strong Teeth (thrust-1 (2)) [3];
Temperature Tolerance 10 (+10 x HT) [10];
Tunnelling 1 [35]
Dark Vision [25]
DR 1 (Tough Skin) [3];
Magical Aptitude 0 [5];

Disadvantages:
Callous [-5];
Trickster [-15];

Skills:
Geology IQ -2 [1];
Metallurgy IQ-2 [1];

Aren't those guys cribbed from Narnia?

I don't think so, Narnia has Marshwiggles who are gloomy and negative but not particularly stupid or small.
