Depends how paranoid you are feeling. Attacking from orbit allows you to pretend to be aliens, rather than "humans who appeared out of nowhere." If you're concerned that some of the Zoneminds might survive and develop parachronics, you might want to give them a clue in a different direction.

Of course, if you're afraid a Zonemind might survive, you might want to increase your overkill level instead, or just rethink your reasons for attacking.

The key to any initial blitz of Steel by Centrum or Infinity is nuclear explosions that appear out of nowhere. Ideally launched form points co-existent with each Zonemind's central brain.

You do the same with factory centers to logistically cripple the remaining small fry.

Storming the beaches has very little to do with the whole process.
