I had a rare Saturday at work and missed the discussion about the Buggles being an underrated band. I have plenty to say on the topic. (Just heard their last single, "ON TV" on my mp3 player last night).

Looking forward to the next FnordCon!
And yes, The Buggles were a cutting-edge band with a large, if sub rosa, effect on the music industry. Trevor Horn from the band went on to produce a number of bands on Zang Tuum Tumb, including the amazing Futurist band Art Of Noise.

Shame that the record company forced the drummer to play for Asia. Who knows what else the Buggles would have given us?
Just for a treat, if you don't know the Buggles, just listen to the jazzy instrumental in the middle of "Vermillion Sand". Only one of many surprises from The Buggles.

After all the big shots left Asia, Downes carried the group through many dismissed albums. It would have been an opportune time to re-collaborate with Trevor Horn. |
