Default which two attributes?

The game Lasers & Feelings referenced in another thread got me thinking about attributes used to represent characters. D&D has six attributes(STR, DEX, INT, CON, WIS, CHA). GURPS has four. But you could have more or less of them.

If you have only two attributes, what should they be? One dichotomy that seems quite natural is Body and Mind, which collapses D&D's STR, DEX, and CON into Body and INT, WIS, CHA into Mind.

But are there other useful ways of splitting things into two abilities?

I think two is too few. I'm comfortable with BESM's Body, Mind, and Spirit, which is three.

Strength and Speed would work for a system in which intelligence is just represented by skills and player choices.

Another common divide is Active and Passive (or Attack and Defend, or Do and Be).

Do and be?

One idea I was toying with is Fast and Slow.

Why have two attributes when you can have one? Call it "competence"

No attributes. Use skills only.

I never understood the point or meaning of the Spirit attribute, personally.

I think the best two-attribute system I saw was...Microgames Melee, with ST and DX. Choose between HP, big weapons, and heavy armor or high chance to hit. :3
