Advantage that triggers save or die roll after use.
Hey, so I'm writing up a rather powerful ability for one of my characters to take but its very much so going to be a only in the most dire of circumstances thing and I wanted to make it after the abilities use they had to roll against either HT or just a set number to not just straight up die and disintegrate.

Use Modified Limitations to slap Resistable on Costs HP: 6x max HP (automatic death with no roll allowed). Do 11x HP if you want to be a pile of dust instead.

I thought about that, but I'm uncertain how to make it trigger at the end of the time span the ability is being used and how to make it something that happens on a failed roll.

This is the Backlash limitation (see Power-Ups 8: Limitations, p. 11 or Powers, p. 104), using Heart Attack as the limitation. "Disintegration" is a special case of Heart Attack, basically - if you die from it, the fact that you happen to crumble into dust rather than leaving a corpse is just a special effect.

So, Kfireblade, your basic "Instant death" effect would be +400% here. Convert that to a limitation, and halve it to give it an HT roll to resist. Since you want it to only kick in after you've used the power, you can steal a page from the Aftermath limitation (Power-Ups: Limitations p. 11), and halve the value again. Now, normally, Aftermath has all the consequences of the limitation happen all at once. With Backlash, the "consequences" are normally multiple rolls to resist the condition, so you could do it as just that: make 1 roll to resist dying for every minute you had the ability active for. But that's a lot of rolls, so I suggest instead making it just one roll, with a -2 penalty for each full minute you had it active. So, as a -100% limitation, after finishing using the ability, you have to make a HT roll, at -2 per full minute you used the ability, or disintegrate. |
