Default E-Book Formats

With the proliferation of E-readers has there been any consideration to publishing in E-books formats?

Essentially the issue is twice the layout effort for very little extra revenue potential. And modern tablets generally display PDFs just fine. There are tools out there (i.e. briss) to crop the margins off PDFs so you can display them larger, or many good PDF tablet viewers have similar options built in.

pdf is an ebook format -- it's been in use for quite a while now. Many devices can handle multiple formats (the tablet I use as an ereader has been able to handle everything I've thrown at it). I suspect you're asking about an ebook format that is compatible with a device that you have. So, what have you got?

Anything that reflows text on the fly for the reader is not going to be an option. There are too many cross-references between books ("See p. XX in Book YY") and too many layout-intensive tables.

Buy a better reader. I own a 10 inch, a 7 inch, and a phone that can all read the pdf books perfectly.

The Android devices have worked the best for me, based on price for what you get. ASUS, Amazon and Motorola all sell fairly inexpensive devices. The Adobe reader is free and seems to work best with the SJGames titles, especially the scanned 3e products.

Older ipads are also fairly affordable, and a lot of my relatives have had good luck with them.
