Ready the sling with one hand
Hello!
I was wondering if you know any advantage or perk that allows you readying the sling with one hand. I was thinking of "heroic slinger" and "exotic weapon training". The objective is readying the sling and attacking on the same turn. What do you say? Thanks, - Hide |

Re: Ready the sling with one hand
A magical sling would make more sense maybe?
Because I think, you will want it always loaded, not just for the first attack. So I wouldn't look in character abilities. |

Re: Ready the sling with one hand
I dont see how you could do it with 1 hand without some special loading device.
Any case its not the loading that limits the ROF its spinning it up to speed IMHO.

Re: Ready the sling with one hand
I'd let someone try Sleight of Hand.

Re: Ready the sling with one hand
In my experience with slings, there should not be much problem in fetching the stone and dropping it into the sling's pouch. As you turn the sling in circular motion, the impulse keeps the stone on its place and you can hurl it without problems.
If it was something more complicated such as a sling with a cradle instead of the pouch, or the kestrophedrone, I would find it harder to achieve. In GURPS terms, I would like to justify it without claiming “strong exceptions” or so; hence I am looking for an advantage and a perk. The sleight of hand sounds like a good option, but do you think that’s enough to avoid employing both hands at reloading? Because using shields and slings was possible, you could look at this video too. Last edited by Hide; 10-01-2018 at 05:35 PM. |

Re: Ready the sling with one hand
Thats still using two hands. I could see a perk for a style where you fast draw the bullet and toss it to your shield hand using your Fast Draw skill and when your ready drop it from that hand to your sling pouch or wrap the stone with your sling to load the sling.
That video set did get me thinking I might add a Weapon Adaptation perk to use Kusari as a sling for my dwarves.. Not very realistic because of the weight, I bet you get a lot less power out of it, but hey...Magic.

Re: Ready the sling with one hand
Tactical Shooting, page 39, has the One-Handed Drills Perk, where it suggests reloading a firearm with one hand can be done in 3x the normal time, or only 2x with the Perk. Considering Readying/reloading a sling is probably less involved than doing so with a firearm, a default of 2x, dropping to normal time with the Perk, seems appropriate.

Re: Ready the sling with one hand
The obvious cinematic way to load a sling one handed would be tossing the bullet in the air, then swinging the sling around to catch it. This would actually be pretty fast if successful, but on a failure you drop the projectile.
