Realistic bow hunting is going to rely on hitting the Vitals (which should get more of a damage bonus from Imp than Pi) and Bleeding - lots and lots of bleeding. 3 damage to the Vitals is at least 9 injury (again, should be more), which is going to be a Major Wound for anything less than 700 lb or so (meaning the vast majority of things hunted with bows). That's a roll at -5 against knockdown/stunning, with Bleeding rolls at -6 every 30 seconds. Chances are pretty good that deer's dead.

Well, an average professional hunter (not warrior) is likely to have Bow-12 and Stealth-12. A successful Stealth roll and 30 minutes will get you within 30 yards of an animal. That's -7 to your to hit roll. +3 for Acc, +2 extra Aim, -3 for Vitals. Total -5ish. And if you fail, to disable the game, it'll run away.

+1 for SM, +1 for All Out Attack. Someone who relies on hunting deer for survival may also have Weapon Bond, for another +1, and/or Targeted Attack (Vitals), for up to +2. Low-stress modifiers may also come into play, although at best that's probably only a +1 (you don't need to worry about hitting someone else, but missing means you - and possibly your tribe - may well go hungry). Subsistence hunters might also have Deadeye, while modern hunters have the equivalent of a ballistics table (actually a set of sights for various ranges) and wind gauge (although lack of a spotter or place to brace would prevent Precision Aiming, although I'd waive that for such a short distance). That's a total of between -3 and +3. At its worst, that's a 37.5% chance of a likely-disabling hit, and a miss by 1 still hits the Torso for 6 injury (just barely too low for a Major Wound against a massive red deer, but there's still a chance of a bleed-out, albeit low). That doesn't strike me as horrible odds, and if the situation warrants it you might be able to get closer for a better shot.

And, of course, plenty of hunting animals will be 166 lb or lower (threshold for ST 11), where it is a major wound. Those ones won't be SM+1, though.

There are multiple types of arrows, arrows who do pi damage should be better against armor(higher base damage), while arrows who do imp damage should be better against flesh(higher multiplier).
