Re: Steve Jackson Games' GURPS 2020 PDF Challenge
W23 is a store that sells a bunch of stuff, not all of which is published by SJG.

I agree. I have it as a book, but having it searchable would be nice.

Re: Steve Jackson Games' GURPS 2020 PDF Challenge
Please see this statement from the Kickstarter campaign. This is important information; so important, in fact, that it appears twice on the Kickstarter campaign page.
"NOTE: Only PDFs published by Steve Jackson Games and currently listed for sale on Warehouse 23 will be available to project supporters. We cannot list PDFs by other publishers or PDFs that we do not currently sell." If you check the GURPS Prime Directive product description on Warehouse 23, you will find this info: "Publisher Amarillo Design Bureau" Please look at the product details on Warehouse 23 very, very closely when deciding whether or not to support the GURPS Kickstarter campaign. The last thing we want to deal with is an unhappy project backer who thought they would be able to select a PDF that will not be available in BackerKit. Asking questions here should, hopefully, help to avoid the problem. Please feel free to ask if you have a question about any specific title. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...pdf-challenge/

In brief, it has to be:

Re: Steve Jackson Games' GURPS 2020 PDF Challenge
I wonder where the "profitability" line is. DFRPG was successfully funded, but not profitable (IIRC).
(And no, I don't expect SJG to disclose this information. Just thinking out loud.)

Re: Steve Jackson Games' GURPS 2020 PDF Challenge
That may have been due to scope creep. This project, by having all of the products ready before it opened, seems to be quite resistant to scope creep.

Re: Steve Jackson Games' GURPS 2020 PDF Challenge
I don't think it's even useful to compare PDFs to a physical product that had to contend with several printed books, multiple specialty components (box, poster map, cardboard counters, dice, etc.), and assembly. That's apples to stem bolts. The current PDF won't have to contend with printing, casting, cutting, samples, assembly, boxing, or physical shipping.
Also note that we revised our thinking and supported the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game with three other Kickstarters. The game was ultimately profitable! It's just that the original Kickstarter wasn't the raging success we had hoped it to be (let's say that our hopes were closer to the 3,379 backers TFT got that to the 1,587 we actually got).

Re: Steve Jackson Games' GURPS 2020 PDF Challenge
True, true. So far we have 70 people at the "New to GURPS" level. Some will be people who are already into the game and want the Basic Set, but on the other hand some new people will be going for the $99 level.
Edit: Projection says somewhere between $52,000 and $65,000. So comfortably founded and then some. But sadly, no one went for the "Kromm lives in your attic" level.
