Default Only While Injured

Is this a valid limitation for advantages?

Only While Less Than 1/2 HP, -10%

The idea being that the character 'powers up' when hurt badly. Similar to Berserk but with the character still in control of their faculties.

Looks good to me.

Maybe more, considering that at low HP you have DX and IQ penalties.

Seems OK to me for most advantages. Be careful though, it's *not* a valid limitation for advantages that alter injury mechanics - so it's effectively -0% for Regeneration, Recovery, Unkillable and the like.

Well, it is a valid limitation if they all shut off when you're at some fraction of HP that is not "full" - if Regeneration shuts off when you hit 50% HP, then you're still wounded.

Although I would argue it's worth less because they never work when you're not wounded. About half, or a -5% nuissance effect for the specific 1/2 HP scenario.

I wouldn't include Recovery in that restricted list though - that improves your recovery from KO for any reason, including failed fright checks, Afflictions, drugs, and magic spells - none of which may involve any injury.

-10% is not nearly enough discount, IMO.

I think it could be a big higher, too.

Some years ago, RPK suggested (in an off-the-cuff way) a -50% "Only when injured" limiter for Talents as a way of mimicking High Pain Threshold. To me, that seems to overvalue the hindrance it would cause for most advantages, especially as it is implied that only a 1HP injury is required to meet the terms of the Accessibility, but it does suggest that a generic value for the proposed modifier should be < -10%.

Yes, 1 HP damage is easy to come by. A better threshold might be 2/3 HP. Then it's at least serious, without being as life-threatening as close to 1/3 HP as 1/2 HP is.

Letting it be 1 HP would be like funding a First Aid skill purchase.

It could be set up levelled. I feel that triggered at loss of 1/3rd of HP it could be worth -30% and if triggered at a loss of 1/2 of HP it could be worth -50%.
