detect: *this* specific item -80% is ok. detect: *a* specific item: thats something else. |

Yeah, I'd allow this as a stand alone perk, but not as a slotted or modular ability.
I don't know sorcery very well, yet, but it seems like Detect with preparation required might end up being a more reasonable way to go about it. To use a more extreme example of a similar principle, I'd never allow Cosmic Modular Abilities (1 point, Single trait: Weapon Bond) for the same reason--you doing an end around a pretty crucial drawback of the trait.

This has kind of a Chekov's Gun problem. The PCs will know from the beginning that the MacGuffin will feature in the plot and probably that the sense for it will too. It will only work if they are specifically going on a quest for it.
