Default How do you plan to organize your counters?

This isn't a "what plano box are you using?" question, it's "do you plan to keep units separated by product, or mash them all together?" question.

For example, the LADs are in Battlefields, but are you going to leave them separated, or combine them with the rest of the other units? I'm still trying to decide for myself, but will probably put everything together.

Especially when looking at having ODE, O6e, Battlefields, etc, I just have this weird issue with mashing things together. I like the idea of knowing what goes with which box.

I'm in a transitional period about it, personally.

For the longest time, I've kept things together by ecosystem. ODE got at least one copy of everything, O6E got only the stuff released specifically for that edition.

But being out of space (to the point I haven't punched some sets at all), the desire to put the boons of Ogrezine II back into the game (read: more stuff to go in the boxes that have no room for more stuff), and the impending arrival of a mountain of cardboard from Battlefields has me re-thinking that plan.

For my ODE, its copy of Battlefields is going to join the pile. Granted, I've hit the point where I need a homemade genuine imitation Broken Token insert to cut down on dead space in the box and hopefully find enough to fit it all, so that copy will likely stay pretty pristine until I get around to making one.

For my O6E...I'm not sure. If I pick up a third Battlefields to go with my personal copy of O6E, it'll likely see the Iron Mountain and Battlefield Engineering stuff plonked in the 6E box, and the reskins sent to ???.

The Demo Stash copy will probably end up broken apart...with the Iron Mountain stuff being put in a separate container with M2, and the reskins going in a "This cool stuff is also in the box" container [which will probably be another custom insert, using the Battlefields box]

But all of that is subject to change as I try to figure this stuff out.

I presently have mine in Plano boxes, separated by factional colors. So the logical thing to do with the new Battlefields stuff will be to pile each faction into their respective box as well. So my older Nihon stuff gets new buddies soon ...

I ziplock mine, with Combine/PE separated into separate tank/GEV/INF/other bags. I suspect I'll put them all faction bags just for the new stuff, and then it'll drift into the main bags as it's used.

This is actually an interesting idea. Make an "Iron Mountain" set that's standalone. It's not like there aren't a bazillion extra units, etc to do it. Make a mini tube with an insert for the needed units...

It came to mind when thinking about what I was going to do with all the IM-specifiic units [the variant trucks, the variant howitzers, etc] in Battlefields, with the very limited space in my 6E box. I sincerely doubt I'll ever use an Iron Mountain Howitzer or an Iron Mountain Truck in regular play, let alone more often than I'll use it to play the scenario they were created for.

Something similar to the Iron Mountain concept but only if you have enough is to choose some favorite scenarios and store the units for these together from the rest. The map mods have been my biggest bugaboo but I'm working on something.

I do that for demos a lot. I have baggies of Mark III and Mark V attacking for easy deployment.

I had everything stored in their respective boxes. But having things spread between my copy of ODE, two copies of the 6th edition and now a copy of battlefields I decided to go ahead and pull everything out and store it in lowes brand tough boxes. So now I have my miniatures and my regular pieces stored by faction in separate tough boxes. So for example all my PE pieces from all my different sets are in one tough box further separated by like item. For the smaller factions I have several in one tough box. Then I have a tough box for all the terrain pieces. The only thing I have left in an original box is the cardboard ogres in the ogre garage in the ODE. I'm still mulling over whether to put those in tough boxes as well.

I have long ago decided to sort by faction. My main concern has always been storage options other then the old tried and true ziplocks. I bought storage trays from a craft shop, but have yet to transfer them because I have trouble finding someone to play against. Only one hobby shop ran ogre games, but stopped because I was the only person showing up.
