Default DF Ninja and Lizard Climb

Is there any reason not to add Lizard Climb to the list of Ninja skills if you are using Martial Arts with Dungeon Fantasy?

Personally, I think it stomps on the Thief too much, so I'd say no. The ninja is more killer than thief as designed, and Lizard Climb is more of a thief's skill than a killer's. Ninjas are also more gadget-oriented than thieves, so they should be climbing thanks to self-boosts by stepping on the their ninja-to's tsuba, climbing with metal claws, using climbing poles, and otherwise using cool stuff to get up there.

They have cool powers, even some thiefly ones, but I think this pushes a bit too far.

Shadow Walk already allows moving along vertical surfaces without any rolls at all. I've got a Ninja that complains that he can't leave Shadow Form without falling. I suppose I can suggest he use Tools to solve this problem. Thanks!

No problem. There is a lot of overlap, but ninjas need to do things a little differently - it's what keeps them from being a Thief replacement, really.

These kind of questions are why I abandoned that Other Game in the first place.

Well you don't have to play in my DF game and couldn't even if you wanted to (too many players already!).

This is a Setting/Genre rule (aka a DF rule) not a system rule 8)

None of my players has wants to play a thief anyway, but we have a ninja who does a lot of the thief-y things. I think the ninja replaces the thief quite handily. I think it is a better template. The style may be different, but the result is similar, and there is more combat utility.

Not trap detection and disarming unless you are a Ninja-Theif.
