Re: Car Wars @ Kublacon 2018
I hate to bring this up, but maybe we can avoid the Disney Princess syndrome so prevalent at the game last year. >:)

Re: Car Wars @ Kublacon 2018
Last year there were a couple of young girls playing. I didn't play in the game but I would hazard a guess that they weren't that interested in the game. There was a kid friendly Car Wars game at the con too so they may have thought both Car Wars games had a similar theme.

Re: Car Wars @ Kublacon 2018
Three grade school girls. Nice kids, but not wholly interested in gutting an enemy vehicle with mass firepower.
"Can I drive into a wall?" "Can my car catch fire?" And then crawling under the table. If anything it was kind of fun and funny, and the guy captaining their team was great with kids. More power to him. *MAJOR EDIT* I'll play with anyone, even young kids. And I hope they enjoyed the game and as a lowly player and SJ Game fan, I wouldn't want to exclude anyone. I felt I had to add that. Some kids have better attention spans than others, and kids are kids. Many apologies. Last edited by Blue Ghost; 04-26-2018 at 10:12 PM. |

Re: Car Wars @ Kublacon 2018
No, yeah, totally.
I think in that scenario you have to cater to everyone at the table, even if it's on multiple levels. Bend the rules, get fantastical, and tell everyone up front that this won't be a typical Car Wars game. I YEARS ago was visiting SoCal and played a CW game with Rob Hagmaier at his house with his gaming buds. It just so happened that all his crew needed a slight rule variant break and so they added a heavy Munchkin element to that particular game. I hadn't heard of Munchkin at the time, but was happy to roll with it, and ended up having a ton of fun. EDIT: and speaking of Hagmaier, here's a rad link to some (arena) design advice: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/277...obert-hagmaier Last edited by josephrey; 04-27-2018 at 04:22 AM. |

Myself: I admit I'm Not Good With Children, so I usually mark my games "no children", even if there's no reason to disallow them. I need to find someone I can pair up with who is good with kids, and let that person field the younglings. :)
