Dragon's Egg
I'm trying to put together a TL8 Technomancer scenario involving a
dragon's egg being sold on the black market. I'm assuming that the egg could be verified (that a dragon's genome is somewhat similar even from different species; in the "mass magical production - extensively researched" setting that Technomancer is). Either TL8 microrobots pulling out a genetic sample or something a little more traditional without damaging the item overly. However I don't know how BIG a dragon's egg might be. I didn't see anything in Magic or DF#3. Has this ever been detailed in GURPS someplace ? I'm guessing minimum the size of a watermelon roughly...so they won't be terribly fragile (save environmental considerations). >

Re: Dragon's Egg
I'd be surprised at anything bigger than a Cantaloupe. The square-cube law means eggs tend to get bigger less rapidly than the animals that lay them and there's a point where shelled eggs just don't work any more.

As far as big eggs go, try this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant_bird.

The shell weighs 13.6 pounds; the size of a softball.

Re: Dragon's Egg
Probably 4e but retro-fitted to 3e.
Basically, 4e ditched a lot of the 3e stuff I liked, such as TL 8 Microbots from GURPS Robots and Spring Needlers. I think even Gyrocs were TL8, at least certain items. Looks like Ultra-Tech was uplifted to cover TL9+ and TL 8 has been downgraded to High Tech. However using magical enchantment, you can easily create a TL9 item fairly easy; so to me, it's not a big obstacle. I've also been thinking about an Alternate Technomancer where psionics are prevalent and powerful, but I'm not sure it fits beyond the "this might work" portion of development. There'd be too much campaign stuff to remove and overhaul; so it might lose it's appeal. >

Re: Dragon's Egg
TL 8 in 4e is modern times. If it's not available now (nor soon), it's not TL 8. I don't think we're close enough to making microbots for them to be TL 8, but then again, I'm not sure what you mean by microbots (I don't think I have the book they're in).

Re: Dragon's Egg
I'm not too worried about being on the GURPS Perfection List, so I'll
slip between the two as I need. I'm more interested in putting something together that can captivate the players and pcs. >
