Re: Technomancer: Manastar Familiar in 4e
@callarson: That doesn't provide the bonuses that the Neural Interface advantage gave you in 3e
@Shrale: Yes, very much so. The user mentally bonds with the OS magically, and grants him the ability to communicate with his, now sentient, computer. This grants the OS the ability to think independantly, and the user the ability to mentally interface with the computer in the same way one with the technological equivalent would. @rougebfl: Yes, that is basically how I enabled the neural interface, except as a familiar instead of an accessory. |

So simply decide whether you want 3e or 4e ruleset and go from
there. BTW -- if you start an online game of Technomancer, please give me a heads-up :) >

Heh, I'll be sure to do so. I wanna get the conversion playtested first, though. And several of the spells need to be manually added to Character Assistant... I count at least 9 so far. And I only found those because somebody wanted to be a hacker/cyberwiz. Thus, the familiar.

Re: Technomancer: Manastar Familiar in 4e
Do you see any problems with moving the familiar from one computer to
another ? Basically, I have an NPC who would have the Manastar 2100 (I'm working on a TL9 future campaign) on his laptop; then after he makes enough money, moves it to a Flying Webcam (it's a computer but is similar to the Hugin detailed in Technomancer p94; Night Vision, Flight and maybe Insubstantability and Illusion Shell). I'm pretty certain the process will require a Cyberwiz and some quasi-tech ritual... but this will allow the Familiar to move into a new body. >

Re: Technomancer: Manastar Familiar in 4e
I don't see a problem with it. Even though the familiar itself is technically a spirit, I'd like to treat it as a non-copiable AI. Hmmm... The question is: Would its IQ go up with the complexity of the computer itself?

Re: Technomancer: Manastar Familiar in 4e
Would you be willing to share any of your GCA4 templates ?
I wouldn't mind seeing how much damage I can do with them in GCA :) >

I would if I could figure out how to apply modifiers to a GCA4-made template >.<

I was able to build a quasi-template for the Manastar and zero out all the points for no Attributes (eg, the ST=0 DX=0 and not have it display a massive negative number). The Damage still shows so I'm not sure about that for the moment. WILL and PER also show, which I think an intelligent familiar would still retain (well, maybe not PER). I simply listed the Abilities as Advantages for now using the usual points under the original names used by Technomancer. For the moment I'll ignore Interface Jack, and just assume the Mental Link provides the master with an equivalent Neural Interface via the "Familiar can speak" mental communication. Since there's no die rolls involved in linking/speaking advantages work fine. Just need to determine range. >

Re: Technomancer: Manastar Familiar in 4e
So it looks like "Familiar can Speak" equals MindLink p70 in Characters.
It's a 5 point advantage and automatically works in both sending/receiving with one person. Just need to determine range. For $3500 I'd say it's has a fair range enchanted into it. So give the Telecommunications Talent at say up to 1000 yards max, should handle it. Your opinions ? >
