Car Wars models: What scale?
Just trying to figure out the size scale of the models so as to make some same-sized terrain.

Re: Car Wars models: What scale?
I spent some time on the math... Depending on how accurate you want your terrain, it seems like CW is in the same boat as toy cars... Somewhere between 1:58 - 1:64 scale. I'm 3D printing my stuff at roughly 1:60 scale, which is what I landed on as being "close enough".

Re: Car Wars models: What scale?
Yes, same phenomenon as with Hot Wheels and other toy cars.
I do feel like some of the miniatures are, relatively, a little too big and others a little too small. But I am okay with some abstraction, and the sleds work so very nicely. That Wikipedia article mentions that manufactures refer to this as “box scale”, which is to say there is some looseness to accommodate the standardized packaging and supply chain. Re: Car Wars models: What scale?
The handy part about going with 1:60, 1"=5'... So I took advantage of that for ease of math... :P

Re: Car Wars models: What scale?
Working in inches and feet worked well enough with CCW, but I have to wonder, might you not be better off trying to think in “turning key lengths” as your base unit?

Re: Car Wars models: What scale?
I cheated a bit with that too... :P That's how I worked back to 1:60... Average car length is between 15'-17', I split the difference and called a car length 16'...
The only reason I spent the time on it was because I'm 3D modeling my mini storage and terrain combo as 20' & 40' shipping containers in scale. There were a few options on thingiverse, but the sizing was such that it wouldn't hold the models without scaling changes anyway. So I went off down the rabbit hole a bit... |
